Judith Pleasance
Living and working in the City has enabled me to see how the City works from different angles and to use diverse networks to serve my constituents and promote the City as a whole. I lobby and influence on behalf of Langbourn, most recently on issues for constituents, including reducing traffic to give us safer, cleaner, greener streets, the worry of homelessness and rough sleeping and how to help re-energise our retail and leisure offerings, which needs all our support if people are going to want to work, visit and spend money in the Ward.
I know that safety remains a big issue of concern including personal safety in bars or on streets, mobile phone grabs, cyber security for businesses and individuals, bikes and e-bikes: (after much lobbying, we had a win on curtailing e-bikes being dumped inconsiderately). Philip and I are planning several in-person and online events, with the City of London Police which we hope you will find useful, if we are re-elected.
Elected to the Court of Common Council as an Independent for the Ward of Langbourn in 2013, I was honoured to be re-elected to work for you in 2017 and 2022. My knowledge of the City is extensive and I will continue to work tirelessly for you if you vote for me. You have three votes in this election and I suggest you use two of them to vote for Philip Woodhouse and me, Judith Pleasance.
Philip and I each have 12 years of experience, serving on different Committees and make a strong, passionate team for the Ward, with a great depth of experience of how the City works and how decisions are made. Hopefully, we must have done something right in the past, as Philip came top of the Poll in 2013 and 2017, while I came top of the Poll in 2022!
During my time as a member of Common Council for the City of London, I have served on numerous committees and boards, including: Audit & Risk Management; Barbican Centre (inc Finance and Risk Committees); Bridge House Estates (inc Grants Committee); Community & Children’s Services; Culture, Heritage & Libraries; Digital Services; Homelessness & Rough Sleeping; Licensing; Museum of London (including Audit & Risk); and Planning & Transportation.
My current external appointments include the Eastern City BID’s (Business Improvement District) Communications & Culture Working Group, working to re-vitalise the EC3 area and beyond, where I also represent the City of London Corporation as Observer to the Board. I am a Trustee of The Insurance Museum, working to discover and share with all audiences, the incredible story of insurance past, present and future. Serving on so many City boards and committees has provided a deep insight of the issues affecting the Ward (both now and in the future) and greatly enhanced my ability to continue to achieve the best possible outcomes for the businesses and residents of Langbourn.
As a consultant in communications, marketing and event management, my portfolio has included organising functions at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle plus numerous other venues. Before standing for the Council, I have been Clerk/Interim Clerk to three Livery Companies and was Chief of Staff & Special Projects Director to Past Lord Mayor, Sir David Wootton and operated in a consultancy role to charities, including Service charities, Brain Cancer and the Lloyd’s Motor Club.
I am a Liveryman and serve on the Court (Board) of both The Upholders’ and The Woolmen’s livery companies and am in line to be Master Woolman in 2026/7. Previously, I spent some years on the Livery Companies Skills Council, focusing on excellence in skills, apprenticeships and vocational training. I am Past Chairman and Vice President of Langbourn Ward Club, a member of City Livery Club and an Ambassador for the fabulous Goldsmiths’ Fair.
In my spare time I find sponsorship for The Woolmen’s annual charity Sheep Drive & Livery Fair, when Freemen of the City of London drive sheep across the Thames and thousands of visitors come to watch and enjoy the Fair. I love music, animals and gardening.
If you kindly re-elect me this year, I shall continue to work for you to the best of my ability, continuing to ensure your views are heard and that action is taken. I am proud that Langbourn Ward and indeed the wider City of London, will be ever more sustainable, with a thriving workforce at the top of their game continuing to enjoy the excellent retail, leisure and cultural offers available to them, just outside their offices.
